Avoiding Social Isolation / Partner Support Groups


Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline: 1-800-272-3900

  • Trained and knowledgeable staff are ready to listen and can help with referrals to local community programs and services; dementia-related education; crisis assistance; and emotional support. Care consultations are provided by master's-level clinicians. We can also provide help in a preferred language using our translation service.
  • Spanish speakers available (no need for a translation service, translators used for other languages)

Institute on Aging 24-hour Friendship Line: 1-800-971-0016 or 415-750-4111

  • Both a crisis intervention hotline and a warmline for non-emergency, friendly emotional support calls.
  • They also make “outreach calls” to those who register with them.
  • English, Spanish, Cantonese. Callers who do not speak English may be asked to provide contact information for a return call when a person who speaks their language is available (same day).

Covia Well Connected: 1-877-797-7299 or 877-400-5867 (Spanish)

  • Well Connected is a phone and online program offering activities, education, friendly conversation, and an assortment of classes and support groups to older adults accessible from the comfort of home. Well Connected members can play a game, learn a language, write a poem, go on a virtual tour, meditate, share a gratitude, get support, and most importantly, connect and engage with others every day across the country. All groups are accessible by phone or on online. Well Connected is a Community Service of Covia and is free of charge to all participants and available to adults over the age of 60.

  • Covia matches volunteers with seniors on a one-to-one basis, bringing compassionate conversation and care into their lives and giving volunteers an opportunity to listen and learn.
  • Social calls normally happen weekly.

  • Normally occurs in person the last Saturday of the month, 10:30am – 12:00pm

  • Internet services for low-income households (including seniors) that will continue after the 2 months for $9.95 per month.
    • I believe the monthly total after services fees and taxes ends up being about $12-$13.

  • People who are over 60 years old or who are high risk will be matched with a younger/low risk individual who can delivery essential supplies like food and medications to the older/at risk adult.

Raley’s Senior Essentials Bags:

  • Intended for seniors and at-risk customers in self-isolation or quarantine, our team members will build as many Senior Essentials Bags as they can each day. Bags are placed at the front of the store or can be picked up curbside each day.
  • $20 Bag: Mix of fresh items and pantry staples.
  • $35 Bag: Freshly cooked, heat-and eat entrees and salads.

  • Food distribution site for families in need of food assistance in the Chinatown area.
  • Pantry normally operates on Thursdays – recommend calling to determine what current procedures are during COVID-19 before offering this as a resource to people in need.
